Welcome to Gilmore College for Girls
Gilmore College for Girls is a Candidate school the Middle Years Programme – International Baccalaureate. As an International Baccalaureate school we share a common philosophy with other IB schools; that is a commitment to high quality, challenging and international education. In 2013 we achieved DEECD ‘Specialisation status’ as the only government secondary school providing the Middle Years Programme – International Baccalaureate. Gilmore College for Girls aims to enable young women to achieve their potential in an all-girls environment of educational excellence. We develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young women who help to create a better and more peaceful world through inter-cultural understanding and respect. Our programs encourage girls to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners with a global perspective.
There are many aspects of our College of which we are justly proud; a high level of academic achievement in a safe learning environment. Girls learn in an environment where they can take risks, pursue opportunities and rise to leadership challenges. The school’s motto; Harmony and Success, recognises the school’s motivated and ethnically diverse community and the excellent learning atmosphere of the school.
Gilmore College for Girls has a proud tradition of promoting and providing the best in girls’ education. Parents are making a conscious decision to send their daughters to an all girls school and value the educational benefits that this brings. Gilmore College for Girls is named after Dame Mary Gilmore and we carry forward her commitment to social justice and education. The college is rich in history, established in 1925 as Footscray Domestic Arts School the college then became Footscray Girls High School and then during the 1980s re-badged as Gilmore College for Girls. We are proud of our background and traditions and have a strong alumni who remember fondly their education at Gilmore College for Girls. We now embrace the future with our new curriculum, open plan learning spaces and BER Science Centre.
The college welcomes student enrolments at all year levels. We pride ourselves in the high number of students who continue onto tertiary study. We have a team of teachers who assist students in accessing a broad range of scholarships, study opportunities and leadership programs.
The College has a partnership with Victoria University and, through the Australian Business Community, a mentor partnership with Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
